Last year, post race!

Last year, post race!

Some might call me insane, overzealous, or excited (perhaps all of the above), but I like to think of myself as passionate.  So what if the littlest things thrill me to the nth degree make me happy? It’s the little things that we should focus on, right? (How some people would get through the work week otherwise is b e y o n d me.)

This Sunday (9/21), I’m participating in Women’s Health Magazine’s RUN 10 FEED 10‘s Annual NYC 10k along the West Side Highway – an event that encompasses 3 things that I am very passionate about: helping others, running, and food.

As an individual philanthropist, I like the idea of thinking my actions – participating in service, donating, buying products that support charities, etc. – will make a difference in this world. However, I am also very much a patriot. I’ll spare you the details, but in a nutshell, I tear up every SINGLE time I hear the national anthem. I am very grateful to everything this country has done for my family, and I wear red, white and blue with utmost pride.

So while I think that spending time helping others around the world is important, I think our home should come first. From the poor and hungry to homeless veterans, I personally place high priority on taking care of businesses in our backyard. How can we truly give to others, when things are not taken care of, here? This is why RUN 10 FEED 10 stood out to me – giving help to where it hits the hardest.

With every registration, each runner provides meals to 10 hungry Americans – that’s roughly 5$ a person! On top of that, the event encourages you to fund raise on your own. Last year, there was a 100$ minimum if a participated chose to fund raise individually. Although there is no such requirement this year, I opted to run my own fundraiser for it! A special thank you to my family and my very generous friends, who have been really supportive so far 🙂 I really couldn’t be here without you!

*** Currently accepting donations in two forms: monetary support 🙂

A tidbit below from the event’s homepage:

ABOUT RUN 10 FEED 10
Right now, 49 million Americans are going hungry—they don’t know when they will get their next meal. The reality is there IS enough food in the world today for everyone to get the nourishment they need for a healthy and productive life.

HUNGER IS THE WORLD’S MOST SOLVABLE PROBLEM.
It’s something we can do something about. Together, we can make a huge impact in a very simple way. All you have to do is RUN!

This fall, Women’s Health will once again host our run with a mission. Run a 10K with us, and you will instantly provide 10 meals for those going hungry in your local and surrounding neighborhoods. You can join us by racing in New York City, Chicago or San Francisco, or you can join us at Fun Runs nationwide. If you don’t live in one of our host cities – you can still participate! Sign up to run your own 10K or start a team and host your own RUN 10 FEED 10 run. The money from your registration and fundraising efforts will go to those metropolitan areas nearest to you.

What events/charities do YOU support?

xx
