EYEWINKED, January 2015: when I started this blog in 2013, its purpose was to document my adventures in New York. A little over a year later, a little over a year older and hopefully wiser, those dreams and adventures have grown with me.

stripped_When I started this blog, as an avid Apple fan and iPhone fanatic, I needed a name that symbolized both myself and my purpose. I wanted a name that embodied that concept  – the whole ‘iINSERTNAMEHERE’ idea. EYENEWYORK was supposed to represent that, the blog’s purpose, to eye see New York and share it with all of you.

Since then, a little growth, evolution, and development has taken place.

Same blog, new focus. Less New York, more ‘big picture.’ A move towards personal/ expansiveness, but still chasing after that sun. To capture moments – to capture winks, if you will. Wink = moment. A little clever play on words. 😉

Thanks for reading; welcome back to EYEWINKED*.

EYENEWYORK, October 2013: a blog meant to house my dreams; a place where I can share my city discoveries from eats and treats, to urban beats; the start of a new adventure.

It began with a visit from my sister, a 2nd Lieutenant in the Marine Corps – she may be the undiscovered life coach of her generation – who continues to inspire me to think big and go after everything and all I want! On this rare weekend visit from her training base in Quantico, we spent several days keeping busy in the city (luckily it wasn’t so hard :] ). From volunteering at a food bank in East Harlem, to rummaging around stores the East Village, to gorging on desserts that reminded us of home in Chinatown, I realized I had spent more time in Manhattan in two days alone than I had in the five or six years I’ve been living here. You know what that is? A pathetic travesty. I was standing outside of a rickety old shop staring at blue crabs and dried sea cucumbers when reality slapped me across the face: I was wasting away. Literally.

Like most, I have many dreams. If we’re talking numbers, the count ends up around to a bajillion; rough estimate. They say your 20’s are about being selfish: finding, redefining, discovering, creating yourself, so it’s no wonder and no surprise that half of us don’t know what the hell we’re even doing! It is incredibly easy to get stuck in the same old routine; which for me is gym, work, eat, sleep, repeat. After a while you forget what it is you’re even doing, or shit, where you’re even living – and I’m living in fucking New York City.

In the words of a wise old man, “It does not do to dwell on dreams and forget to live.” I’ve spent enough time dwelling and too much time forgetting. So this is my attempt to live out my dreams, to chase after the sun; so that when I’m ready to jet back to the West Best Coast, I won’t tell people I lived in New York, but that I truly lived it.

Thanks for reading; welcome to EYENEWYORK.

“You said, remember that life is not meant to be wasted. We can always be chasing the sun!
So fill up your lungs and just run, we can always be chasing the sun.”
– Sara Bareilles, Chasing the Sun (The Blessed Unrest, 2013)
